An Inspiration In The Making Part 2

Well, after a hard day's work the Decoupaged Children's Stool is finally done.

An Inspiration In The Making

As I write this blog, I have put one coat of sealant on the stool and am waiting for it to dry. When I bought this stool, it was unfinished. And after gathering all the supplies that I would need to complete it, I first sanded the rough spots.

Unfortunately, my camera does not do the colors in the photo Justice. I painted the stool in a lilac dust purple to match the purple in the pink flowers. I then took some light blue paper with different color polka dots in it and decoupage the top the stool.

After I got all the paper on. I used my Sizzix machine and cut out the flowers in matching paper and pasted to the top. The stool also has one flower on each side of the legs. Which will be shown in later photo's.
The stool has a bar in the middle between the legs, so I decoupaged each side of that with all 3 papers used in the top. My daughter has already asked if I would do her a Tinker Bell one. I told her maybe for her Birthday. I cannot wait to get this done and get more photo's up!

The Fun Of Decoupaging

I am having so much fun Decoupaging the glass vases and the wood. These projects started with a little wood plaque that said Love, Pray, Hope on it. And is growing by leaps and bounds everyday. I did my research on the art of Decoupage after John thought it would be a good idea to seal the first plaque. Then I found I had totally glued the paper on with the wrong glue, that's why it wasn't working right.
So, I used the internet to my advantage on this one and researched the word Decoupage for a couple of days. I searched images and articles to learn about this fascinating way to cover things in paper, glue, and sealer. Of course the article explaining what Decoupage is uses this as a definition: Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects.
Me paint? Ha! My husband paints much better than me, specially on small items. So, I decided on the glass vases to cover them all in wonderful paper and then seal them.

As you can see, from the vase above (Newly Listed in the booth). I put 5 layers of Mod Podge Glossy on these vases to give a shiny effect. Everyone has their own technique when comes to creating things.

If you've never done Decoupage before and are wondering how to get the paper stuck on the project you are working on. I used Elmer's glue and water. Some of the articles said to use half and half, but I found it to be to watery. So, I would use less water then glue. Should be runny though. And sponge brushes are great to get the glue on the back of the paper. Press on your object and make sure there are no air bubbles. If the glue comes out the side of the paper, that's okay too! Let dry and seal. Some sealers though recommend you sand them after. So, I would use a thin layer on all the layers until you get it built up to where you feel comfortable.
I also used those wonderful Decorative Scissors for Scrapbooking to cut out the paper. If your a starter on this, I would use thin paper versus thick decorative scrapbook paper. On the Black and Cream vase the paper was thick and I had a lot of trouble getting it to stay on the glass versus the White/Blue vase where I used thin paper.

A little peek at the wood plaques

I thought you'd like to see a little peek at the wood plaques. They all won't look like this, as this is really my first time making these. But, as I got started in doing them, John said they really look like coasters. So, after I get done with the plaques, I will make a set of them as coasters as well.

I have another one to match this one. But, I haven't started it yet. Hopefully today, I will have them done. I am still waiting on the clips to come in for the Bows.
This has been quite a challenge for the whole family, as I have taken over the dining room table to add the new inventory in and get it finished. My office is in the process of being cleaned and organized and then I will have to find an extra spot for the new things and a place to work on them. Maybe one day I'll be completely organized!

Spring Fling

Wow! I feel like I haven't blogged in such a long time. I don't think I even did a blog about the Christmas Show. And now that Christmas is over and gone, I am thinking about the Spring Show in March. And All the New things I am doing to offer in the store in 2011. But, first here's what I've been working on today. This is my first piece for the Spring Show to be held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in March.
It is a decoupage glass vase. I love the selection of my papers for this vase, reminds of a Victorian Era! This piece hasn't been finished yet, because it still needs to be sealed with Modge Podge. But, I couldn't wait to give my fans and customers a sneak peek of what's to come in 2011!

Next, for the spring line up I will be offering in the store a wide variety of colors of the ribbon flowers. Small and Medium one's will be available in the store and at the Spring Show. These are wonderful for cards, pages, or to make hair bows yourself! Here's a preview of some!

I will also be offering soon Ribbon Flower Hair Bows as well. Still waiting on those supplies to come in from Thailand. This is just a few of the new items to hit the store and the shows in 2011! I can't wait to see what I get inspired to do next!

Gearing Up For 2011

Now that the Craft Show is over and done with. What's next for Inspired Creations? Well, all the old inventory or what is left that didn't sell at the show is in the process of being put up for auction on Ebay! Except the Book Marks, which are being re-listed in the Bonanza Store, with free shipping. All new product will be posted up in the Bonanza store once I get it done. This week John and I will be posting like crazy to get everything back in place and I will also be filling that custom order for 50 Note Cards as well.
We have decided to do the Spring Show in March and add some new items, such as the wood signs to our booth. Here's some photo's of the craft show!

We were set up by the main entrance door and it was cold! While we didn't sell as much as we hoped we would, it felt really confident after talking with some other sellers that it was a slow weekend for them also.

We didn't have the most impressive booth there. But, for our first time it was a wonderful experience, with many things to learn! My CD/DVD gift holders and gift tags were a big hit!

Tomorrow's The Big Day!

Starting at 9 am (earlier because we have to finish setting up) John and I will be at the 35th Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Show and Sell at the Rockingham County Fair Grounds! We will be there 9-4 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. Free Admission to the Public and Ample Free Parking for everyone! We will be in booth number 77!
I am so excited. We are going over tonight for 2 hours to take tables and inventory over and start setting up my first booth. John couldn't get the stained glass ornaments done in time, so I've added a few extra's to take. Such as the pleated Ribbon Flowers!
It's in the main building! I've never been to a function like this at the fair grounds, just the barn party before I joined our church. I'm excited to see everything and what the other sellers are bringing in and how they set up their booths!
I have nothing else lined up after this show, well, cept the 50 Custom Cards to make for my great Aunt. So, don't forget you can now use the Contact me tab on my fan page to place custom orders or questions! And the store will re-open on the 6th of December!
